Thank you for your interest in Northern Hills Church. When
you are considering a church home, naturally, there are
questions that arise. This page is intended to convey basic
information about our beliefs and ministries. Northern Hills
Church believes and teaches that:
Jesus, as revealed in the New Testament, is
God's Son, and our Savior. (John 20:31; John 3:16)
The Bible is God's Word, providing the
information and guidance we need to know him and his will
for our lives. (II Timothy 3:15-17) As God's Word, it is the
authority directing us in what we teach and practice.
The Church is God's family on earth
(Ephesians 2:19), a gathering of people brought together by
common faith in Christ. (Matt. 16:18)
Our Message
We present the "good news" of the Bible that God, our
creator and Father, demonstrated his love for us in sending
Jesus, His son, to die for our sins (John 3:16; Romans
5:8,9). He was raised back to life three days later giving
us the hope of eternal life (I Corinthians 15:1-4).
Each Sunday our messages seek to help people understand and
apply the Bible’s teaching in ways that connect with daily
living. This is done focusing on the hope, strength and
grace that comes from God through Jesus Christ.
In addition to the messages preached each Sunday,
opportunities to grow in an understanding of the Bible’s
teaching is provided at various times during the week. (John
14:6) Christ's teaching, presented in the New Testament,
forms the substance of our teaching. (Acts 2:42; II Timothy
3:16)
Our Mission
Northern Hills Church exists ...
To present the good news of Jesus Christ to the communities
of Northern San Diego county and to participate in the great
commission of going into all the world.
To prepare dedicated followers of Jesus Christ, helping them
to mature in faith and equipping them to do works of service
in Jesus' name.
To practice our faith as a fellowship that together worships
God, ministers to one another and serves the community.
Our Sunday Gathering
On Sundays at 10:30 AM, we gather as a Church for worship
and encouragement (Hebrews 10:24,25). You will find a
simplicity to our weekly services, our activities finding
their basis in scripture:
We celebrate the Lord's Supper every
Sunday. Established by Jesus himself, this memorial meal is
an integral part of our gatherings as it was in the early
Church. The unleavened bread represents the body of Jesus
and the grape juice, the blood of Christ (Luke 22:19-23; I
Cor. 11:23-28). At this time our hearts and minds are taken
back to what Jesus willingly did by dying on the cross for
our sins.
We sing hymns and spiritual songs to
Worship, be uplifted, and teach. (Colossians 3:16,17;
Ephesians 5:19).
Bible reading and practical, biblical
messages are a part of each service, directing our minds to
God’s Word and its application to our lives (I Timothy 4:13;
2 Timothy 4:2).
Prayers of praise, thanksgiving, and
request are offered to God. God intends that His house be “a
house of prayer” (Matthew 21:13).
We bring our offerings each week as the
members give to support our ministry. The Bible teaches that
we should be good stewards and financial supporters of the
church’s ongoing ministry. (I Corinthians 16:1,2; 2
Corinthians 9:6,7)
Our Identity
As a congregation we consider ourselves non-denominational in that we identify ourselves as simply Christians. It’s our aim to simply be a part of the Church Jesus established two thousand years ago without being part of a more recently established denomination (Matthew 16:18). We have no creedal statement other than our confession of belief in Christ, and no spiritually guiding or governing instrument other than the Bible. As an autonomous church we have no ties to a hierarchy above the local congregation. Like the church in the New Testament, our congregation is overseen by a body of elders who are spiritual shepherds for the church (I Tim. 3:1-6; I Peter 5:1,2). We are part of a larger fellowship of congregations who share this goal of undenominational Christianity and who identify themselves as simply Christians or “churches of Christ” (Rom.16:16).
How Do I Become a Member of the Northern Hills Church?
You are welcome to attend all of the activities and
assemblies of Northern Hills Church as often as you desire.
You may be investigating Christianity, having not made a
commitment to Christ, and need time to consider this
decision. You may be a Christian new to the community and
seeking a Church to call home. Or, perhaps, becoming a
member of this congregation is something you’re now
considering. Please know that wherever you are in your
journey our hearts and our home are always open to you.
When we speak of being “members” we use this term in the
Biblical sense. When the Bible describes the church, it’s
described as a body with Jesus as it’s head (Ephesians
1:22,23). Paul said, “In Christ, we who are many form one
body, and each member belongs to all the others.” (Romans
12:5) These and other passages tell us that God intends for
all Christians to be part of a local church. In other places
the church is described in terms of being a family, a place
of spiritual support and fellowship. How does one become a
part of God’s family?
• By believing in his Son, Jesus, (John
3:16; John 20:21) and acknowledging one’s
faith that He is Lord (Romans 10:9,10; Matthew 10:32).
• Based on that profession of faith, a person is taught to
turn away from sin and turn to God (Acts 20:21), and be
buried and raised with Jesus in the act of baptism
(Romans 6:1-5; 1 Corinthians 12;13; Acts 2:36-38). (Request
or obtain from our information table, a copy of our brochure
explaining baptism.)
